How beautiful installations degrade with time and how to avoid it

We've all seen beautifully loomed and cabled installations in people's brochures and websites, but when it comes to one's own installations somehow it never seems to work out like that - there's always a number of 'washing-lines' that appear to end up being strung across between racks or across the front of switches.

Never Be The Last Person Who Touched The Firewall

This is somewhat of an in-joke amongst network engineers - whoever is the last person to have touched the network (and in particualr the firewall) always, but always, gets the blame for any subsequent issues no matter whether they are the fault of the network or not

Layers of Doubt and Uncertainty

Your networks underpin the operation of all your IT and networks are often assumed to just work.

Nevertheless, they may contain a considerable amount of sub-optimal configuration, faulty operation due to bugs and sometimes areas of poor design. It may have had a large number of changes or upgrades that in the short term improve functionality, but in the long term make operation more prone to failure.

Is your Business Continuity Plan A Disaster?

Fortunately disasters rarely happen. This makes them expensive and difficult to plan for and ultimately manage. All businesses need to ensure that they are well prepared for a wide range of problems.

The answer is to plan ahead and to start thinking about how you can deal with the unthinkable.

We Know What's Wrong With Your Network

Layer3 Systems has worked with networks, systems and databases for over 25 years. There is still something new to learn each day and as our customers make technical advances, we sometimes see that this leads to unexpected operation, underperformance or even failures in the network.
